I, Teohura Um’Atlactl, the last survivor dispersed from the Holy City of Atl’lactl at its destruction make this Testimony. These are the events as witnessed by me when the Holy City fell and the lattice died. I do solemnly swear before Oi’anta, the Goddess who Abides in the Temple of Truth, that this is a true and faithful account.

The Testimony of Teohura Um’Atlactl

I, Teohura Um’Atlactl, Matrix Adept and Dignitary in the Hall of Records do hereby testify to the truth of the testimony I am about to give.
I knew. We all knew. The End Time was recorded in the teora’majiz, the movement of the constellations, and in the uneasy motion of the earth.
For more than 100 decades, members of the Royal House of Atl’lactl discussed the End Times of the Empire. Yet year after year we did nothing to prepare for the survival of the Atl’lactoi and the Empire.
Some did nothing because they chose not to believe. Others did nothing because they chose to forget. Most did nothing because they were soothed by the illusion that the lattice was invincible. They believed that as long as Matrix Workers sat at circle, the lattice would hold, and all living beings beneath the lattice would be safe.
Elders with power, our Eloitl, knew the time of its coming. Yet they too chose to do nothing. They argued that there could be no race of m’ntiza without the Matrix. That should the lattice fall, the purity of the Atl’lactoi bloodline would be irremediably diluted, and the race of the m’ntiza would become corrupted unto extinction. They pointed to the uncontrollable debauchery of the hult’ra, those who live in the Settlements under the sun, to support their position that it would be better to let Atl’lactl fall than have the Empire dissolve into chaos and lawless depravity.
